A light-transmitting fabric with floral patterns is perfect. Sun rays will freely pass through such curtains, and at the same time the room will be hidden from the prying eyes of neighbors.

Kitchen curtains should be sewn from dirt-repellent fabric that does not absorb odors and retains a flawless appearance for a long time. Also, textiles must be easily removed pollution. Such qualities are inherent in synthetics.

Plain curtains are suitable for the living room. They will be combined with many design areas.

For provence and country, checkered textiles and fabrics with floral and berry ornaments will be an excellent solution.

The nursery can be decorated with curtains with images of cartoon characters, flowers, fruits.

Determine the size of Roman-style curtains

Roman curtains ("Roman") must strictly fit into the window opening. Therefore, sizing should be approached very carefully. Correct fasteners also play a large role.

The option when the "roman" is lowered onto the glass of the window is the most popular. This is the optimal solution for window openings with wide window sills.

Some let the "roman" right on the glass. This method requires sewing curtains, lambrequins and an eaves attachment to them.

Cloths of Roman curtains can be mounted on the outside of the window opening. This is a suitable solution if the windows are with sashes and windows, and in cases when they open into the room at full height.

In such a situation, it is recommended to make the curtain wider than the window opening by 5-10 cm and longer by 10-15 cm on both sides. Lateral allowances will be hidden by window slopes and hide gaps.

An allowance at the bottom will allow the bar to be installed above the window opening. In this form, a folded "roman" will not be an obstacle when opening a window.

Sewing Roman Curtains

Sewing a Roman-style curtain is not at all difficult

You will need:

  • Fabric for curtains;
  • The tape is Velcro, its length should correspond to the width of the curtain;
  • A beam (rod) with a radius of 0.2-0.25 cm, length 3 cm less than the width of the curtain - 7-8 pcs.
  • Plastic rings with a radius of 0.5-0.6 cm;
  • A rope of nylon - 3 pcs., Of which two are twice as long as the length of the curtain, and one length equal to the width of the curtain;
  • Planks for weighting and for fastening the canvas;
  • Self-tapping screws, nails, screw hooks.

Action plan

We measure the window opening. On each side, add to allowances for a width of 5-7 cm and 10-15 cm in length. Wash, dry and iron the selected material.

The correct number of folds is calculated according to special tables. This is a very important moment in the manufacture of curtains.

We cut the fabric according to the pattern of the Roman curtains. We note from the wrong side of the fold line, folds and the location of the ringlets. From the sides it is better to tuck the material twice.

Using cloves, we nail the tape - Velcro to the bottom of the strap for attaching the curtains. Sew Velcro to the finished upper edge of the curtain. This will remove the product. The bar, playing the role of a cornice, is painted in a suitable shade.

We turn up the bottom of the curtains, creating a pocket for the weight bar. On the wrong side we sew the hem as a finish. Through the holes we pass the hooks and sew from one edge.

We mark the location of the rings and sew them. To fix the lifting structure, we nail the rings to the wooden beam. The rings should be placed symmetrically, from the edges of the panel you need to retreat 50-100 mm. Fasten the curtains to the bar with tape with Velcro.

We stick a rope into the rings along the entire length of the curtain. After all the ropes are pushed into the rings, we bring them out from above on one side of the curtain.

We tighten them so that the arrangement of the folds is uniform, and we fix the folds with the help of braid.

We fasten the beam over the window opening or to the window frame. We remove the ribbons holding the curtain folded. After lowering the curtains, we align the tension of each rope.

We tie all the ropes into a knot at the extreme ringlet and pass through the handle that lifts the curtain. After 45-50 cm from the site of the knot we tie another knot, cut off the excess. The curtain is ready!

"Roman" is very popular. Do not be too lazy to make them - you will get a fashionable and stylish decoration for your windows.
